White House: Trump Was ‘Making A Joke’ When He Endorsed Police Brutality

President Trump was just joking when he suggested police officers should let suspects’ heads bang against the doors of their police cars ― or so White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she believed on Monday.

When you see these towns and when you see these thugs being thrown into the back of a paddy wagon, you just see them thrown in, rough, and I said, ‘Please don’t be too nice,’” Trump explained. “Like when you guys put somebody in the car and you’re protecting their head, you know, the way you put their hand over, like, don’t hit their head and they’ve just killed somebody, don’t hit their head, I said, ‘You can take the hand away, OK?’” This comment, Sanders claimed, was meant in jest.

Can anyone save Trump from Trump?

Another week, another new hire to save King Donald Last week it was Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci. But that was before his potty-mouthed rant to the New Yorker where he (accurately) predicted Reince Priebus would be ousted as chief of staff. Priebus was gone less than 48 hours later. This week it’s retired General John Kelly. He's taking over Priebus's job after impressing as head of homeland security, the latest person introduced into Trump's orbit with the unofficial title of “grown-up.....”

Maybe Kelly didn't notice, but previous grown-ups with military medals - H.R. McMaster at the National Security Council comes to mind - haven't exactly kept Trump in line....

Trump’s Strategy: Chaos By Design

We are only a little more than six months into the Trump presidency and I’m already becoming emotionally exhausted by the antics of the president and his underlings. Everything Trump Does Must Be Viewed Through This Single Lens

Frank Rich writes: New White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci pledged to “fire everybody” to stop leaks to the press and almost immediately threatened Reince Priebus, implicitly accusing him of a felony. Meanwhile, the rift between Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions suggests Sessions may be out before long. What does Trump hope to gain from the purges in the highest reaches of his administration?

At this juncture the priorities of Donald Trump have winnowed down to a single agenda item: saving himself and his family from legal culpability for their campaign interactions with the Russians and their efforts to cover up those transactions ever since. Almost everything this president does must be viewed through this single lens. If you do so, you’ll find his actions usually make sense...

Naturally, the Mooch then proceeded to lash out at the press for reporting a story for which he himself was the source.

We’re on the Brink of an Authoritarian Crisis

If Trump fires Robert Mueller or pardons himself, Republicans won't do a thing about it—and our democracy will be changed forever.

If this crisis unfolds as depicted here, the country’s final hope for avoiding a terminal slide into authoritarianism would be the midterm election, contesting control of a historically gerrymandered House of Representatives. That election is 16 months away. Between now and then, Trump’s DOJ and his sham election-integrity commission will seek to disenfranchise as many Democratic voters as possible, while the president himself beseeches further foreign interference aimed at Democratic candidates.
